Every Family Breastfeeding
Mary Muse Consulting, LLC
My name is Mary Muse, founder of Every Family Breastfeeding. Since 2011, I have been practicing as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I started Mary Muse Consulting, Every Family Breastfeeding, because I enjoyed breastfeeding my two children and wanted others to experience its joys and benefits. In addition to my IBCLC certification, I have a Master's degree in Public Health from Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health.
I help expecting mothers learn how to breastfeed successfully so that they can give their baby the best nutritious milk available and I provide postpartum lactation consulting.
My mission is to ensure all babies have the opportunity to benefit from human milk and families reach their breastfeeding goals.
Allow me to say a little about my breastfeeding journey. While pregnant with my first child there was no breastfeeding support or breastfeeding information provided where I lived. Eventually locating a support group 45 minutes from my home--I faithfully drove to the sessions each month. Although driving to the meeting was a time-consuming effort, it was well worth it! I was able to get the breastfeeding information I needed well before the birth and, I knew what to do when the time arrived,--or so I thought! After birth, I realized that I needed both--the breastfeeding information I had received--,and professional assistance during the breastfeeding journey.
Through this professional assistance, I had the opportunity to receive postpartum lactation consulting, which eventually led me to my breastfeeding goal!
Unfortunately, my experience with successfully breastfeeding is not the experience of many mothers due to the lack of breastfeeding information and consultation. Like myself, many mothers are left with no choice but to travel far from the comfort of their homes and communities to get the help they need. With a background in public health and being an IBCLC, I know the benefits of providing an infant with a healthy start by providing human milk.
There is a huge need for prenatal breastfeeding education and postpartum IBCLC support that is reliable, evidenced-based and easily accessible. Without the services and support, breastfeeding can be a challenging experience! It's not meant for families to do it alone. It's a communal affair.
